“Today, Transgender Day of Remembrance, is a solemn day.

As I read through the list of our transgender siblings who fell victim to anti-transgender hate, I couldn’t help but get emotional.

I read the names of people, our fellow humans - who were stabbed, shot, beaten, and strangled to death - all because they were living their truth. What started with sadness has turned into anger.

But the 23 Americans and countless victims across the world we lost this year have not died in vain. This sadness and anger must produce action. There is so much more work to be done to support everyone in our community to live their lives fully, openly, and free of discrimination.

We are with you. We will fight for you. We won’t forget you.”
