OUTAthlete Program Now Accepting Applications

It can be hard for many LGBTQ+ young adults to find a place where they feel comfortable participating in fitness, and The OUT Foundation and its local chapters in Portland, ME,  Miami, FL, and New Orleans, LA are partnering with local CrossFit gyms across the country to change that.Enrollment is now open, and interested applicants are encouraged to apply at iamout.org/outathlete before the October 31, 2020 deadline. Preference will be given to applicants who live in the Greater New England, Louisiana, and South Florida areas.“The OUT Foundation provides access to fitness, health, and wellness to the LGBTQ+ community,” said Eddie Plata, Executive Director of The OUT Foundation. “In service of our mission, we have been working to develop local chapters across the country and are partnering with them to set LGBTQ+ young adults up for a healthy lifestyle through our successful OUTAthlete Program.”Recipients will be chosen and notified by December 1, 2020, and The OUT Foundation will work with them to find a local, inclusive CrossFit facility where they can begin their fitness journey in January of 2021. “We were fortunate enough to host an athlete as part of the OUTAthlete Program, and he has been such an asset to our community,” said Joe Fecker, Owner of CrossFit Milk District. “This program has helped him become a coach here, which we are very grateful for, and we are proud to be a part of this phenomenal program.”Now supporting its third class of athletes, the OUTAthlete Program has helped over 30 athletes in 28 cities. OUTAthletes receive a year-long membership to a local LGBTQ+ friendly CrossFit gym, nutrition coaching, 30% off all OUTAthletics apparel, healthy meals, a networking group of current and former OUTAthletes, gifts from our sponsors, monthly educational sessions, and more.“I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the OUTAthlete Program, and I am now a proud trainer at Crossfit Milk District,” said OUTAthlete Logan Downs. “The OUT Foundation gave me support as a coach and a competitive athlete, and I love being part of a large LGBTQ+ athletic community that the OUTAthlete program has helped foster.”
